About Ink x Fin

Hi, I’m Morgan DeCanio.

This winter, I drove my camper van to Baja, Mexico with two intentions: to learn how to spearfish and to practice the traditional Japanese art of Gyotaku. There’s something deeply meaningful in this full cycle—to catch a fish, to honor it through art, and to prepare it as food. Nothing wasted, nothing taken lightly.

Each print is created using time-honored techniques: sumi ink brushed directly onto the fish, then pressed onto delicate washi paper. What remains is not an interpretation, but an impression—every scale, every curve, exactly as it was. My prints are left unedited, with no embellishment, preserving the integrity of the tradition.

It’s a slow, careful, and intimate process—one I’m honored to share with you.
